President's Message - Spring 2010

I am proud to announce that as of the May meeting, the Lodge now has over four hundred (400) members for 2010!!!  I would like to personally thank all of you that have brought in new members and continue to promote the benefits of belonging to our Lodge. An important aspect of our growth is that many of the new members come from local agencies and from diverse backgrounds. The Executive Board is dedicated to fostering our continued growth by providing the members with the very best in special events. We have several upcoming events such as the Dover Nascar trip (05/16/10 ) and the Hudson Valley Renegades outing (07/10/10) ,which should be a great time for all. We are also planning an Army Football tailgate at West Point in the fall so stay tuned for details.

The Lodge will commemorate Police Week with a  wreath laying ceremony at the Orange County Law Enforcement Memorial Wall on Friday May 14th at 1830 hours. Please make an effort to attend so that we may honor the sacrifice and memory of the 23 fallen officers whose names are listed on the wall. In the spirit of Police Week, I would like to thank P.O. Steve Dunn  Village of Monroe PD, who is participating in the Police Unity Tour and is riding in memory of our Lodge's name sake, P.O. Jason Conklin. On May 22nd, the lodge will be awarding the Jason Conklin Memorial Medal of Merit to a member of the Orange County law enforcement community at the annual OC Chiefs of Police Association awards ceremony. The event will be held at the Emergency  Operations Center in Goshen at 1700 hours. If you plan to attend, please arrive early with proper ID as this is a secure government facility.

Lastly, it is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of long time member Tom Vetell who passed away on April 20th. Tom was a U.S. Navy veteran and a twenty year member of the NYPD, retiring from the 20 Precinct. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife Arlene, as well as his son and fellow Lodge member Tommy.

The next meeting is on Monday June 14th at 1900 hours and will be a BBQ held in the outdoor pavilion behind the American Legion Post #488. Please note the time change from our usual start time of 2000 hours. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me (www.fop957@gmail.com) with your thoughts or suggestions on how we can make the Lodge better. Stay safe and bring a new member to the next meeting.

Fraternally,

Mike McGinn
President
