President's Message -
Spring 2008 We have had several busy months, and I would like to update you on the Lodge’s activities.
First, the Christmas Party was well attended and a good time was had by all. A special thanks to State Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun for swearing in the new Executive Board. Nearly 100 members, spouses and guests attended, and Past President Tom Carton was presented with a plaque for his many years of service and dedication to the Lodge.
The March/ St. Patrick’s meeting was also a memorable event due to the performance by the NYPD. Emerald Society Pipe Band. This is always one of our most heavily attended meetings, but there was still plenty of corned beef and cabbage, supplied by Birchwood Caterers, to go around.
The Board also started presenting “Ten Years of Membership” certificates and pins to our members who have been with us since the Lodge’s founding in November 1997. We will continue with this program to recognize those members who have maintained their membership and faithfully served this Lodge over the years. As I said early on, the strength of any organization rests with its membership and our members are the best!
In April, thirty-five of our members participated in the Lodge’s annual firearms refresher course. Our many thanks to Masterclass Shooters Supply for the use of their range and also to the retired range instructors, including Tom Carton that assisted in the course.
Finally, as many of you already know, the Lodge started a “300 Club” fundraiser at the February meeting. The purpose of this fundraiser is to help the Lodge with its many charitable endeavors and to offset operating costs. Tickets are $20.00 and only 300 will be sold, with the winners being drawn at the June General Membership meeting. I urge all the members to participate and assist us in making this a successful fundraiser.
Fraternally,
Mike McGinn
