
Special Agent Scott K. Carey, 35, a member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Field Office died in the Line of Duty as the result of a vehicle accident.
On Monday, May 9, 1988, Special Agent Carey, assigned to the FBI’s Driving School, in New Paltz, was instructing students in high speed pursuits. In the execution of a maneuver, the axle separated from Carey’s vehicle, throwing the car into several violent rolls. Special Agent Carey received numerous head injuries and was transported to Horton Hospital in Middletown, where he died of his injuries on May 10, 1988. Two other agents also in the vehicle survived their injuries.
Special Agent Carey, a 5-year veteran of the FBI, left behind a wife, Nancy, and two daughters, Kimberly Anne, 7 ½ and Amanda, 5 years old.
