Trooper T. Michael Kelly, NY State Police, 5/31/2000

Monday, May 31, 2000, was a dark day for the men and women of New York State Police Troop F. On that day, 2 of their troopers were killed in the line of duty.

Trooper T. Michael Kelly, 49, a 22-year veteran of the New York State Police, was performing training duties with another officer.  While attempting to stop a motorist for a traffic infraction, the vehicle in which Trooper Kelly was riding was hit by a tractor trailer, killing both Troopers instantly.

Trooper Kelly was an avid runner and a coordinator for the Police Torch Run for the Special Olympics. He left behind a wife, Dorothy, and two children, Katie, 10, and Sean, 17.
