
PO John A. Patwell, NYPD, 6/15/1980
On the afternoon of Sunday, June 1, 1980 Police Officer John A. Patwell, shield # 12098, 43rd Pct, a 14-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, was responding to a call in front of St. Raymond’s Auditorium on the corner of East Tremont Ave and Purdy Ave, in the Bronx. As Officer Patwell was entering his Radio Motor Patrol Car, he struck the right side of his head on the roof of the car. Two days later, on June 3, he was admitted to St. Francis Hospital, where he died on Sunday June 15, 1980.
Police Officer Patwell left behind a wife, Rosemary (who has since also died), and 3 children: Kevin, John, and Moira.
