SP4 Derek M. Schultz, US Army Military Police, 7/20/1987

On Monday, July 20, 1987, while assigned to Guard Duty at the Washington Gate entrance to the United States Military Academy at West Point, Specialist 4th Class Derek M. Schultz died of injuries received on duty.

Shortly after noon on that day, the 20-year old soldier was controlling access to West Point, when he was struck by a tour bus which had lost control. Schultz suffered massive head trauma in the accident, and succumbed to his injuries at St Luke’s Hospital a short time later.

SP4 Schultz, a native of California, had been assigned to the Military Police Company at West Point just six months earlier, and was a 2-year veteran of the Army. He was survived by his mother.
